Max Max: ‘73 Ford XB GT Falcon

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Before Mel Gibson lost his mind he was Max, Mad Max. Recently I ran into a collection of fan cars from the movie on the Internet.

Ranch Market Rocks

I’m still getting my bearings in the Valley but I kinda know where I’m going now. As Sheila and I have settled in we’ve started to explore a little to see if there’s anything more to offer. On a recommendation of a friend we shot over to the Ranch Markets on Sepulveda. There’s and Asian one and an Armenian one just a few blocks away.

It’s fun to people watch. I saw and old guy dig LITERALLY to the bottom of a display of cabbage in an attempt to find the “good one”. You know they always keep the good ones at the bottom. I saw another dude thump like every watermelon he could get his hands on. I don’t know if he even bought one after all that. That dude was thumping up a fucking storm.

Later in the Asian version I ran into this.

This is an ice cream sandwich in the shape of a hamburger. Not gonna find that in a Ralphs. The best thing about these stores are that they are super cheap. We bought 5 bags of produce for 20 bucks even.

Aeron Love

Saturday, July 29th, 2006

First I want to thank you all for the cards and letters. I know everyone was so very concerned about the comfort of my ass. The people who belong to my “inner circle” know that I’m a cheap bastard. For years I’ve been suffering with crappy Office Depot chairs and various yard sale finds. The last piece of shit is on the left.

I was having a bad day a couple weeks ago. I’m moody. Whatever. Sue me. Anyway, Gabe just turned to me and said, “I think it’s time for that Aeron. Let’s order it now.”

Thanks dude for giving me permission to spend a horrible amount of money on a chair! It really _is_ better, not just hype. No more squeaking, unexpected tilting, or sanded down elbows.

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart—and ass.

117º

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

Jesus Kristofferson in a chicken basket. It’s 117º today in beautiful Van Nuys. All my friends from the westside always have to ask me if it’s hot. Yes, it’s hot. Kind of like being set on fire.

You know right as I took that picture a guy JOGGED RIGHT BY ME. Dude, it’s 117º, go see a movie or something. WTF!?

350 GT

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

This car was soooo nice. The sound system in the back was a surprise. I wonder where you keep the subs in a fastback as there’s no trunk? What’s up with the back license plate—just a logo?

I want those rims! The tire is a perfect fit and no low profile either—old school for a better ride.

Shelby Cobra

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

Man this car is nice. Also it’s signed by Carol Shelby. Is this a reproduction or original? I love to see people actually driving these cars and not just trailering them from show to show.

Bad Solenoid

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

What the deal with solenoids. On old cars they seem to go out all the time. I just don’t understand how after all these years they haven’t figured out how to make one that doesn’t break it it gets too hot? Retarded.

There’s not too many things I trust myself to do when it comes to working on a car. However swapping a solenoid it pretty basic. So, After a week of “jumpping” it by hand I took a liitle time out of the weekend to change it out.

Here’s the old piece of crap. By old I mean like a month or two. Lame!

Here’s where to find it if you’re like me and weren’t born with the knowledge.

Off to Kragan! I swear this store really appeals to the white trash in me. I just love looking at all this stuff.

Back home with the 10 dollar replacement part. It has a lifetime warranty. I’m sure I’ve already lost the receipt. Anyway, I pulled the old one out and replaced it with the new one. Man that was so easy! It’s almost like I know what I’m doing.

Oh wait, I don’t know what I’m doing. I forgot to connect these guys. The car won’t start without’em. Oooops.

Success! Now I can look forward to another month or two of starting my car!

Hot Mama!

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

Man, it’s hot as hell in the valley. 100+ on most days in the Summer and Bestsy is not dealing with it well. This is my temp after a sit in a little traffic on the way home. SCARY! She has a 302 bored .030 over with a giant Holly 4 barrel. There’s a 4 row radiator _trying_ to cool things down. Stock was a 2 row but that was for an unmodified 289. But even the 4 row radiator isn’t enough to simmer things down. I guess I’ll try an alimuinum radiator and maybe an electric fan. Jorge fixed the leak we had but that didn’t do much.

She puked the other day after the commute to work. This sucks.

Happy 4th

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Sheila, Taylor and I spent the 4th at home. It turns out that a huge Latino population with a little sprinkling of rednecks makes for some great illegal backyard fireworks! Our neighborhood was an explostion of color. Some people had some seriously HUGE fireworks. We did our part with our humble safe-and-sane products.

Betsy has issues

Saturday, July 1st, 2006

Next week I’m taking Besty in for a few little tweaks.

This is how hot I’m running right now. Today it was 107 degrees out but still it’s too hot. It’s like this most days on the freeway to work.

The radiator is leaking. I tried a new cap but it still spraying coolant from the top and subsequently all over my engine.

Also right where she had all the body work done it looks like there’s a problem with the paint. Jorge is gonna hook me up next weekend. Thanks dude.

Also, a side note. if you look into closely at the photo of the rear-quarter panel you see a reflection of my crotch. Enjoy.
