Weekend Bullets

  • Friday we saw Wall•E. Pixar films are always amazingly thoughtful and well done.(★ ★ ★ ★ ★)
  • Saturday we saw The Fall. It was a surreal faire tale type of a movie. Catinca Untaru is an incredibly gifted actress. (★ ★ ★)
  • Saturday we dropped by the Jeremy Lipking show. It was a packed house. People were spilling out of the gallery. Beautiful work.
  • We took a momment out to look at the ducks and the happy people at Balboa Park.
  • Sunday we saw Wanted which was like Fight Club meets the Matrix. It was total over the top violence porn. (★ ★)

Hey look at this cool dog I saw at the Lipking show!

Sofa of the Month Club: Hollywood Edition

Bryan Warman sent this in from his iPhone. In a heartfelt moment just a few week ago Bryan was brave enough to admit that he’s one of the seven people who reads this blog. God bless you—I need all the hits I can get.

In the spirt of celebrating crap left on the street we kick this one off with black and yellow love seat. Yes, I said black and yellow. Not just yellow, NEON yellow. One doesn’t typically find this color combination in living room furniture because it’s visually disturbing and could someone like me migraine. If I could go to the island of LOST I would throw this thing in the time machine and send it back to 1986.

What sets this sofa apart from the upholstered Van Nuys rubbish I lovingly photograph is it’s unique city of origin: Hollywood. Being from Tinsel Town this sofa of course has an agent who, as you can see, just walked away and left his Panda Express Dr. Pepper. I love L.A.!

  • We saw The Love Guru and it was astonishingly horrible. There hasn’t been a comedy this bad since Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo.
  • I did a little painting for the first time in a long while. I have a way to go to get back in shape.
  • Get Smart was passable.
  • Sheila and I spent Sunday down at the pier. We rode the solar ferris wheel and had a margarita. Fun stuff!

  • I saw “Mongol” (★ ★ ★ ★) and it was amazing. Really interesting, you should go see it.
  • Cruised over to Sheri and Ken’s for a little Fathers day food and family chat.
  • I saw “The Incredible Hulk” (★) and it was sooooooo boring. They need to figure out something different to do with the story. This guy will always be the REAL Hulk.

I had lunch with close to Michael Emerson

I confess I love LOST. I watched the first three seasons on my computer via iTunes—one episode after the other. It took me 2 months to get through them all. The show is totally addicting. Anyway we all ran into Michael Emerson and Kings the other day during lunch. Dope!

Movies, Movies, Movies!

So I’ve been sick with a cold/flu thing for a couple weeks but I’ve still managed to see a few movies.

  • Indiana Jones IV lacked spontaneity but was still pretty good. I’m glad they brought back Karen Allen. Did you know she makes sweaters now? (★ ★ ★)
  • Iron Man was rad. I saw it once but Sheila saw it 3 times! (★ ★ ★ ★ ★)
  • Kung Fu Panda was a well done kids film that adults will enjoy. I got good vibes from it. ( ★ ★ ★ ★)
  • Made of Honor never really got off the ground (★ ★)
  • Speed Racer had heart but didn’t blow my hair back (★ ★)
  • Sex and the City delivered the goods even though they spent a fair amount of time throwing flowers at each other. (★ ★ ★)
  • You Don’t Mess with the Zohan had us laughing all the way through. Also, it had a nice message. (★ ★ ★ ★)
  • What happens in Vegas was run of the mill but had good performances that took it up a notch. (★ ★ ★)
  • Son of Rambow surprised me and was really very clever and sweet. (★ ★ ★ ★)

Sofa of the Month Club

Welcome to the Sofa of the Month Club: Horror Edition. I spotted this duo of Nerf-meets-Rococo casually hanging out in perfect symmetry. Symmetry, can be very haunting like H. R. Geiger but in some cases symmetry can be incredibly peaceful and calming like a Cathedral. I’m really not clear how these two love seats could fit into ANY decor. What do these go with? Why did they need two them? I just don’t get it. All I know is I found it a little unsettling and I’m glad they’ve been hauled off by the Van Nuys elves.
