Raid on Rommel

PG 1971 • Runtime: 98 Minutes • Drama, War

In North Africa during World War II (1942), Captain Alex Foster—an intelligence officer with the British Army—deliberately allows himself to be captured by a German Afrika Korps convoy transporting British prisoners. Posing as one of them, he teams up with remaining commandos and medical staff to seize control of the convoy bound for Tobruk. En route, they uncover a nearby German fuel depot. Foster and Major Tarkington, disguised within the convoy, infiltrate Rommel’s camp, where the doctor engages the Field Marshal in a philatelic (stamp‑collecting) conversation. Foster gains knowledge of the depot’s location, and the group proceeds to destroy the fuel supply. They then commandeer equipment, move toward Tobruk, and successfully demolish coastal gun emplacements, enabling the Royal Navy to launch an attack. The plot concludes with Foster and Tarkington captured by German forces, while the fates of the others remain unresolved.
